HARDING / NEW VERNON
Harding Township is a small affluent community in Morris County, NJ. Located 45 miles from Manhattan, the township includes two unincorporated communities, New Vernon and Green Village. Harding Township was formed in 1922 from Portions of Passaic Township ( Long Hill Township).
New Vernon is an unincorporated area within Harding Township. The governmental offices of Harding Township are located in New Vernon. The area’s Zip Code, 07976, was ranked by Forbes Magazine as one of the most expensive Zip Codes in the country.
Back in 1928 many residents and estate owners agreed to place restrictive covenants on their land, know as the New Vernon Neighborhood Restrictive Agreement.

These have helped to limit development, preserve over 1,000 untouched acres across Harding Township and conserve the landscape and pastoral qualities of the area to the present day.
The Harding Township School provides public education to children from Kindergarten to eighth grade. Ninth through twelfth grade students attend the Madison High School.
The Harding real estate market is mostly one for affluent buyers looking for acreage and privacy. The community is home to considerable estates, farmsteads, equestrian properties and historic properties, but there are also a number of more modest homes.
