SUMMIT

Summit Township was incorporated in 1869 from portions of New Providence Township (now Berkeley Heights) and Springfield Township. Summit was re-incorporated as a city in 1899.

Serving as a magnet for potential homeowners, the City of Summit offers clean, well-kept neighborhoods and fine municipal service. An older, but prestigious community, Summit prides itself on its active town center and abundance of cultural, social and recreational opportunities.

The heart of Summit’s downtown is Springfield Avenue, where sidewalk cafes, boutiques, and restaurants are joined by spas, art galleries and magnificent turn-of-the- century homes. Short Hills Mall is also easily accessible to area residents. New Jersey Transit’s Gladstone Branch and Morristown Line both serve Summit.
